Restoration Project - February 2023

This oil painting, dated around 1850, was in a very fragile state. Re-lining with beeswax and resin stabilised the paint layer, which was then cleaned and fully restored.

Recent Restorations

Re-lining torn or damaged canvases using traditional beeswax and resin.
Above: oil painting in the style of Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788). The canvas  around the edges had rotted, causing the painting to buckle and warp as it became detached from its stretcher frame. The painting was re-lined and retouched where necessary to restore it to its original condition.
